Magnet School Parent Survey - Due June 11, 2021

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We have completed another school year - and what a year it was!!

I must ask you once again to complete a parent survey about how you feel about our Magnet Program at PS 178. This is NOT THE SAME survey the Department of Education is asking you to fill out.

This year, we held Zumba and Paint & Chip Zoom nights for families so we could come together as a community even though we were distanced. Our scholars were visited virtually by The Bronx Children's Museum to learn about Bronx professional artists which I think they really enjoyed. These kinds of activities allow us to embrace our magnet theme of the Arts.

Scholars were introduced to many new digital platforms in their classrooms, such as Flipgrid to send videos, Jamboard to collaborate on work, Google Sites to design and create portfolios, and Nearpod for lessons, just to name a few. As a multimedia school, we were able to lend out devices paid for by the magnet program and participate in many digital platforms to help scholars learn and grow as digital citizens of the 21st century! All these new skills will prepare them for college and careers.

I thank you in advance for taking the time to complete this parent and guardian survey! Your input will help to make our program even better!

Please complete this survey by June 11th. Thank you.

Encuesta de Padres de Magnet School – Fecha 11 de junio de 2021

Estimados padres y tutores:

Internet Hotspots Available from DOE

Hotspots are Available for Students in NYCHA, Shelter, or With No Internet at Home

The DOE has a limited number of donated hotspot devices for schools to give to students who do not have internet at home or who live in NYCHA housing or shelter. Each device comes with a 30 GB plan of monthly data with a two-year service plan. Each hotspot can support up to eight devices.

High school students who do not have internet at home or who live in NYCHA housing or shelter get priority. If there are more devices, we will prioritize middle school students and then elementary school students until we give out all hotspots.

In order for a student to receive a hotspot, the student should not have received a DOE central COVID19 iPad and should not have an active request to receive one.

The student must either:

  • have their own mobile learning device but need internet connectivity at home

  • have a school-based learning device that is not internet-enabled

If you are in need of a hotspot please contact the parent coordinator, Yvette Vasquez at yvasquez2@schools.nyc.gov, by Thursday, November 19th so we can request the device for your child.

Once the school receives the hotspots the devices will need to be assigned to individual students.  Please also be aware that our school will have to work with families so that the student and the parent/guardian

  • Sign an end-user participation agreement

  • Sign and initial a memorandum of understanding

  • Review the program overview and guidelines
